On January 15, 2024, in Çlirim, Fier, at the “Kostandin Peta” school, an environmental education class was conducted. This session covered the issue of environmental pollution, the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere, and an experiment to closely observe carbon dioxide gas.
Focusing on environmental pollution, discussions arose among students about the main factors causing it. How do our daily activities impact the environment? Can we use contaminated water in our daily actions? Is it possible to live in a city with polluted air? How crucial is it to pay attention to our actions, no matter how small, if they have a significant impact on the environment? How does the increased concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere affect us?
To get a closer look at this gas present in the air, the CO2 experiment was conducted. Using plastic bottles as reaction vessels, vinegar (acetic acid) was mixed with baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). This chemical reaction produces carbon dioxide gas, visually demonstrating its emission. The experiment illustrates how human activities, including industrial production and the use of non-renewable resources, have a direct impact on the atmosphere.
Let’s continue to inspire each other to take positive action. The knowledge and awareness among students are initial steps toward creating a healthier environment for everyone.
