Për fatin e keq të brezave të tanishëm dhe sidomos atyre të ardhshëm, qenia njerëzore nuk e ka trajtuar mjedisin me kujdesin që ai meriton. Por çdo krizë në të vërtetë krijon hapësirë për individë, grupe, nisma krijuese dhe ndërmarrëse që janë në gjendje të shohin një mundësi dhe ta kthejnë atë në diçka të vlefshme. Politikat strategjike ndërkombëtare, jo vetëm nxisin, por edhe financojnë nisma të tilla në përfitim të shoqërisë dhe planetit në tërësi.
Në përgjithësi, organizatat e shoqërisë civile duket se kanë prirjen që të trajtojnë në nismat e tyre dukuri që u përgjigjen programeve të donatorëve dhe jo domosdoshmërisht misionit të tyre, nisur nga paqëndrueshmëria financiare me të cilën ato mund të hasen. Nga ana tjetër, një problem i tillë i zakoshëm për një pjesë të konsiderueshme, veçanërisht për organizatat e vogla apo ende të pakonsoliduara, pasqyrohet edhe në fragmentarizimin e shoqërisë civile.
Ky manual, është hartuar jo vetëm për t’u ardhur në ndihmë organizatave të shoqërisë civile (OSHC) që operojnë në fushat mjedisore për të rritur kapacitetet dhe aftësitë e tyre institucionale në kuadër të advokimit mbi çështje që lidhen me fushat e tyre të interesit, por edhe për të shërbyer si një mjet për rrjetëzimin ndërmjet tyre.
Manuali thekson rëndësinë që ka rrjetëzimi për arritjen e misioneve të përbashkëta të organizatave të shoqërisë civile pavarësisht vendndodhjes gjeografike ku ato operojnë, si dhe krijon një panoramë më të qartë të mundësive për bashkëpunim ndërmjet tyre sipas 4 rjeteve tematike: rrjeti për legjislacionin mjedisor; rrjeti për ndotjen e mjedisit; rrjeti për biodiversitetin dhe faunën dhe rrjeti për advokimin mjedisor.
