Five MEPs have sent an open letter to Prime Minister Rama where they support the government’s decision not to allow hydropower plants on the Vjosa River and the plans to declare the entire valley a National Park.
This decision has been evaluated as a positive sign of Albania’s engagement in the process of negotiations for EU membership.
Moreover, they have raised concerns about other hydropower projects that are currently endangering Albania’s nature, including the one in the Valbona National Park.
They have asked the prime minister to review the projects and practices related to hydropower and show the same commitment to preserve the country’s wonderful natural heritage.
