Sotira Waterfall, Gramsh, April 16, 2024. A visit at Sotira Waterfall with pupils of secondary school “Shefqet Guzi”, Gramsh, served as a day dedicated to environmental education, and awareness raising on the ecological corridors importance. The field visit was organized in cooperation with RAPA Elbasan, and Gramsh municipality, which was welcomed enthusiastically by the youth and school staff.
The youth had the opportunity to explore the surrounding nature, while they learned more about the the values of biodiversity, and connectivity pathways for the wild life of the area. Ujëvara e Sotirës is one of the most known toursit attractions in the area, which is not unknown for these youngsters anymore. Through hiking, students were able to see why exactly this area was chosen as the next rendezvous point of the project of ecological corridors. They got to know the surroundings, the field that they had to climb to reach this stunning waterfall and the diversity of plants and animals.
The representatives of RAPA , and the team of environmental education from EcoAlbania informed the youth about the importance of protected areas, and ecological corridors, as life pathways for the biodiversity conservation, incouraging them to be an active part of nature protection in their area. Community and other generations’ awareness raising is as important, and for this reason, in the discussions with the youngsters was mentioned the role they can play in the transmission of this valuable information to the their family members or friends.
At the end of this experience, the youth carried with themselves the inspiration to conserve their exceptional nature, and the memories of a special expedition. They would like to repeat it in other nature destinations of the area.
