Organizations appeal to Prime Minister Edi Rama: Stop the development of hydropower and save Vjosa

On World Rivers Day, 150 national and international NGOs ask Prime Minister Edi Rama to stop the HPP projects and protect the Vjosa valley

On the occasion of World Rivers Day, about 150 national and international organizations have sent an open letter to Prime Minister Edi Rama, asking the Albanian government to protect one of the last wild rivers in Europe, the Vjosa river. The Vjosa ecosystem has rich biodiversity and hosts many endangered species in Europe. Despite warnings from the European Parliament and the Berne Convention, 45 hydropower plants are planned throughout the Vjosa valley, which would destroy this unique ecosystem.
