EcoAlbania Annual Report, 2024

Throughout 2024, EcoAlbania continued its efforts to protect Albania’s rivers, biodiversity, and natural ecosystems through scientific research, environmental education, advocacy, legal action, community engagement, and public awareness. Working closely with local communities, scientists, institutions, civil society organizations, and national and international partners, the organization addressed growing pressures on protected areas and promoted more sustainable and inclusive approaches to environmental governance.

Key efforts focused on safeguarding the Vjosa River and its tributaries, particularly the Shushica River, while raising awareness of emerging threats to the Vjosa Delta and other ecologically important areas. Scientific research and evidence-based advocacy supported ongoing conservation efforts, while legal actions, public campaigns, protests, and extensive media engagement strengthened public participation and amplified the voices of communities affected by environmentally harmful developments.

Throughout the year, EcoAlbania also expanded its environmental education activities across Albania, engaging pupils, teachers, and local institutions through interactive learning, practical conservation activities, and ecosystem restoration initiatives. Cooperation with local communities and stakeholders contributed to strengthening environmental awareness, supporting biodiversity conservation, and encouraging greater participation in environmental decision-making.

Through national and international partnerships, media outreach, digital campaigns, scientific initiatives, and community-led action, EcoAlbania continued to promote the long-term protection of Albania’s natural heritage and advocate for development that respects both people and nature.
