An initiative previously unheard of in Europe will be undertaken by more than 30 scientists from Albania, Austria and Germany, who will conduct scientific research in Vjosa for a week, focusing on the area where the Pocem HPP is planned to be built. .
With this activity, scientists want to highlight the expected negative effects of this Počem hydropower plant on the last wild river in Europe.
Previously, 228 scientists from all over the world have signed a memorandum asking the Albanian Government for a 3-year moratorium on HPPs in Vjosa and to carry out in-depth scientific studies for the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments according to European standards.
From April 23 to 29, scientists will study the geomorphology, sedimentology and biodiversity of the river.
