Representatives from 22 countries gathered in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Dam Removal Europe (DRE) Barrier Removal Workshop, bringing together professionals working on river conservation, restoration, and barrier removal across Europe and beyond.
The workshop provided a space for participants to exchange experiences, strengthen their knowledge, and explore practical approaches to restoring river connectivity. Through presentations, discussions, and field activities, participants addressed different aspects of barrier removal, from planning and technical considerations to ecological restoration and cooperation with relevant stakeholders.
The programme included contributions from six experts from Finland, the Netherlands, Wales, and the USA, who shared their knowledge and hands-on experience in river restoration and barrier removal. The exchange also allowed participants to discuss challenges and lessons learned from different national contexts and explore how successful approaches can be adapted and applied elsewhere.
For EcoAlbania, participation in the workshop was an opportunity to further strengthen knowledge and international cooperation on river restoration, while connecting experiences from Albania with the wider European movement for healthier and free-flowing rivers.
