Planting seedlings with pupils from the “Mihal Nako” school in the Divjakë-Karavasta National Park

Divjakë, December 12th, 2024. The next Environmental Education activity with middle schools included a planting action in the Divjakë-Karavasta National Park. The pupils of the “Mihal Nako” school, together with the staff of EcoAlbania and RAPA Fier, were engaged in planting of over 200 soft pines (Pinus pinea), contributing to the improvement of the park’s forest.

In the Divjakë-Karavasta National Park, a large part of the territory has been left without tall vegetation, as a result of the retreat of the sea due to the high rate of sedimentation. Taking care that the reforestation intervention was as natural as possible, the organizing team took into consideration that the seedlings were suitable for the park’s vegetation (soft pine seedlings) and that the method used was that of imitating nature.

The most suitable period for reforestation of natural areas is the winter season, from November to February, to have a higher success rate of germination and rooting of trees. Therefore, the Environmental Education project aims not only to educate children on good environmental practices of nature restoration but also to contribute, no matter how small, to its reforestation.
