The scientists in Vjosa
About 30 scientists from Austria, Albania, Germany and Slovenia have been doing scientific research for a week in the last wild river in Europe. An unusual press conference was held on 26 April 2017 in Kuta, Mallakastër, on the Vjosa river – an initiative previously unheard of in Europe. On one of the river islands, in the middle of the last wild river, about 30 scientists from 4 countries gathered to draw attention to the irreversible impacts that the Pocem hydropower plant is expected to bring. They called on the Albanian government and Prime Minister Edi Rama to stop this hydropower plant and to draw up an in-depth Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report according to international standards.
