Stop urbanization of Divjaka-Karavasta NP

The company ‘Mabetex Group’ is proposing to the Albanian Government a touristic resort in the heart of the Divjaka Karavasta National Park, at the same time Ramsar Area,  Important Bird Area, Emerald Site and pilot area for the European Network Natura 2000.

The proposed resort foresees the occupation and urbanization of the National Park with multi-storey buildings, affects important ecological areas and is expected to have irreversible impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem sustainability, including fisheries resources as a basis for the economy of the local population.

The awareness raising campaign “Stop Urbanization of the Divjaka-Karavasta National Park” was initiated by a group of national organizations (AOS, EcoAlbania, LexFerenda and Pseda-Iliria) supported by LëvizAlbania and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Mobilizing and coordination as quickly as possible all efforts and human resources to gather as many arguments and support at local, national and international levels as to prevent the approval and implementation of the proposed plan for building a new urban area with devastating effects on the environment and the local economy.

Purpose
Objective 1

Raise community awareness on the Importance and Values of the Protected Area and the threat opposed through the implementation of the “Divjaka Resort” Project, by the end of July 2017.

Objective 2

Promotion and coordination of local activism to preserve the values of the Park and its protection from urbanization through a defense campaign until the prohibition of the implementation of the project at  Divjaka-Karavasta National Park.
