PAMANCA Protecting Areas Matter – Advocating for Nature Conservation in Albania

Albania is a country with rich natural biodiversity but faces numerous challenges in protecting its ecological resources due to economic pressures, gaps in law enforcement, and the need for sustainable development strategies. Currently, several protected areas exist; however, these areas often suffer from frequent legislative changes, poor management and monitoring, and insufficient funding. Biodiversity conservation in Albania supports not only local and national environmental objectives but also contributes to broader European biodiversity goals.

The project aims to combat biodiversity degradation and strengthen its protection. A key priority is raising public awareness and encouraging behavioral changes to support biodiversity conservation, as this directly contributes to the program’s objective of promoting sustainable environmental practices and engagement in policy processes at both local and national levels. By developing methodologies to assess the impact of legislative changes, our project helps improve the enforcement of biodiversity conservation laws. Intervention efforts to enhance the capacities and cooperation of stakeholders will facilitate access to local and international funding opportunities for biodiversity projects, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.

The project aims to improve decision-making processes, monitor conservation efforts, and strengthen stakeholder cooperation, aligning with the overall objective of empowering civil society to participate actively and influence policies and reforms.
