In Media Europe’s last wild river is about to get dammed - europes last wild gives a wide overview of what is planned in Albania regarding hydro power, the ecological as well as social concerns from various parties.

The protest of the “Save the Blue Heart of Europe” campaign directs itself against the plans of constructing more than 2000 dams and hydroelectric plants on the Balkan, being concerned about the broad impact, these projects will have on biodiversity and the local population.

Supporters of this development claim that Albania needs the investments coming into the country by realizing these constructions and that it will profit from an independence in the electricity sector.
