The Japan times reflects on the planned construction of the Pocem Dam, in which the flooding of the village Kut will result.
The Pocem Dam stands for numerous similar hydroelectric projects to increase and modernize the Albanian energy market. Despite the international willingness to invest, they provoke a lot of protest.
Due to the flooding resulting in the construction of the dam the inhabitants of this area will loose their livelihood.
Conservationists and experts object, that it will create an ecological disaster and that other renewable energies, as solar and wind, as well as the installation of a national park should be considered. The latter could also boost a sustainable tourism in Albania.
