Theguardian.com states that multilateral banks are involvedin the development plans for hydro power projects across the Balkans.
According to a report done by the NGO Bankwatch, over 1.500 dams and plants are planned, and it seems as almost half of them are planned in protected areas, like national parks, world heritage and Natura 2000 sites, located in Bosnia, Macedonia and Albania.
The banks claim to move within legal boundaries with no intention to destroy functioning ecosystems, whereas conservationists and locals fight for a halt of these projects.
