Albania lacks effective public information and participation implementation which leads to weak ECSOs and individuals. This is particularly noticed in hydropower projects, that due to lack of environmental legal knowledge and consultation, the development has resulted conflictual in the affected communities. Hence, the enforcement of horizontal legislation will empower the ECSOs to guarantee improved environmentally sensitive projects.
The project’s goal is to enhance an active ECSO network in Albania to monitor and promote enforcement of horizontal legislation.
Project Specific Objectives:

To create a strong and accountable ECSO network to work together on horizontal legislation.

To increase ECSOs capacities on strategic litigation, pro bono legal advice and community involvement.

To monitor the implementation of Environmental Impact Assessment in selected environmentally sensitive projects.

To translate project findings into concrete policy and legal proposals for government authorities and institutions.
The project will be implemented by Milieukontakt Albania, EcoAlbania and Lexferrenda for the period of 12 months (15/04/2016- 15/04/2017).
